Phase One Treatment: Early treatment, or phase one treatment, is usually reserved for younger patients between seven and twelve years of age. This treatment involves correction of an orthodontic problem that needs immediate attention.

If left untreated, the problem may lead to future complications, damage to the teeth and/or supporting structures.

Phase one treatment rarely exceeds twelve months. Usually this treatment is followed by a period of retainer wear. The retainer wear continues until the patient is ready for phase two.

Phase Two Treatment: Comprehensive treatment, or phase two treatment, is the time for complete detailing of the occlusion, bite, and smile. This phase usually takes twenty four to thirty months, and is followed by a period of retainer wear. Patients are often required to wear elastics to correct the bite or finish the occlusion.
